Beijing +25 Women Breaking Barriers: Annual conference of Wales Assembly of Women
Annual conference of WALES ASSEMBLY OF WOMEN: Beijing +25 Women Breaking Barriers [to include the Audrey Jones Awards for Research by Women]
Saturday 21st March 9am -2.30pm, Insole Court , Llandaff, Cardiff.
Twenty five years ago, in 1995, thousands of women gathered in China to attend the NGO Forum on Women and the UN’s Fourth World Conference on Women. It was a challenge for women to get visas, but over 30,000 women from 200 countries were in attendance—and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, an agenda for women’s rights and empowerment, was created. At that historic convening, 68 countries made commitments to recognizing women’s rights as human rights. Members of the Wales Women’s Rights Committee (earlier title of WAW), Audrey Jones, Oonagh Hartnett and others attended this historic global conference . The 2020 Wales Assembly of Women conference will focus on the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for achieving gender equality and address the theme Beijing +25: Women Breaking Barriers.
