Carmarthenshire Armed Forces Community Covenant
On the 24th January 2013, public, private and voluntary sector organisations signed the Carmarthenshire Armed Forces Community Covenant at a ceremonial event at the new theatre, Ffwrnes in Llanelli.
CAVS Trustee Hugh Edwards signed the Covenant on behalf of CAVS.
The aims of the Community Covenant include:
- Encouraging communities to support the Armed Forces Community in their areas, and vice versa;
- Promoting understanding and awareness amongst the public of issues affecting the Armed Forces Community;
- Recognising and remembering the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces Community; and
- Encouraging activities which help integrate the Armed Forces Community into local life.
A Steering Group and Sub Groups have been established to take this work forward and liase with the Armed Forces to signpost support and develop projects. Grant Funding could also be available for community schemes.
CAVS will attend all sub groups to represent the Third Sector and cascade new developments to voluntary organisations in the County.
Rachel Lovell, CAVS Volunteering Development Officer commented, “This is a fantastic opportunity for third sector organisations to promote their services and specialist support to help serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The Covenant is a live document and all voluntary organisations are encouraged to sign their pledge of support.” http://www.cavs.org.uk/volunteer-centre/
