Closing date for applications: Friday, July 18th 2008
• Grants are provided to help establish, expand or develop services for children. Eligible provision could include a parent and toddler group, family centre, home-visiting-scheme, etc.
• The grant should be in the form of one-off minor capital or revenue grants, e.g. for equipment or materials, structural or conversion work, training / publications, toys / play equipment and pilot schemes.
• The maximum grant available is £200.

  Making the finance function more strategic
Location: Cardiff
This half day seminar will give practical advice on these areas and offer tips to finance staff on how to present this information so that it is actually valued by those who use it. There will be practical case studies, and the opportunity to interact and discuss practical issues with the day’s experts and fellow delegates.

The seminar costs just £15 per person (£20 for non-WCVA members), begins at 9.30am and is followed by a buffet lunch at 1.30pm.

WCVA is hosting the seminar delivered by Watts Gregory LLP, and designed for trustees, finance managers, finance staff and advisors in the third sector.

  Community Safety Volunteer of the Year Award 2008
South Wales Police Authority is pleased to announce the launch of the fourth annual ‘Community Safety Volunteer of the Year’ awards. They are committed to highlighting the excellent and admirable work undertaken by all volunteers who help to keep communities safe. The award will be given to those who show a commitment to voluntary working for and with the community, and who show great determination in ensuring the communities in which we all live are safe. This year, the scheme has been extended, to include two new awards.

LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN DEVELOPING AWARENESS AND COMMUNICATION WITH DEAF AND DEAFBLIND PEOPLE.
This qualification is awarded by The Council for the Advancement of Communication With Deaf People (CACDP) and is designed to give learners an introduction to, and basic knowledge of, the whole range of D/deaf and deafblind people.

  Institute of Fundraising – Carmarthenshire Network
Location: Carmarthen
The inaugural event will take place in the Teifi suite at the Halliwell Centre on Tuesday 22nd July from 1pm to 4pm. Martin Price, the Institute's Wales Committee chair and Institute trustee will give a one hour presentation on "The current state of Fundraising in Wales". Next there will a discussion about how a West Wales section of the Institute would work and, hopefully, draw together a small committee to take things forward.
