Consultation on draft Regulations: Local Health Boards (Consultation with Local Dental Committees) (Wales) Regulations 2010

This consultation seeks your views on the draft regulations which establish the principle of Local Health Boards (LHBs) consulting with Local Dental Committees (LDCs) and prescribe the occasions and the extent of such consultations.

Start of consultation: 10/12/2009

End of consultation: 28/02/2010

Background

One of the recommendations of the NHS Dental Contract Review Task and Finish Group, which looked at a range of issues to improve the way in which the NHS dental contract works, was to direct LHBs to observe the statutory requirement to consult with and support LDCs, and take account of other professional advisory structures.

LHBs are responsible for all dental services not just the General Dental Services to which the current LDCs primarily relate. It is important to have effective arrangements in place to provide wider dental advice to LHBs, taking in and representing all areas of the service. The new local advisory structures proposed will see representation of all the professional/service groupings for which LHBs are responsible, to be brought together.

Purpose

To enable the views of all stakeholders and service users to be expressed and considered.
