WRAP Mixed Plastics Recycling Grant

Posted on Thursday, July 2, 2009

wrapWRAP is launching a new capital grant opportunity to provide financial assistance towards facilities for sorting, recycling and reprocessing mixed plastic pacakaging from the domestic waste stream.

WRAP can offer up to £2m as a grant, providing the total State Aid does not exceed 30% of eligible capital project costs (applicants may wish to seek public funding from elsewhere).

PROJECTS

The proposed project must be capable of receiving mixed plastics (non bottle) as a feed material, and sorting it into the major polymer streams.

Proposals will preferably include reprocessing such as washing, grinding and extrusion, and produce high quality recycled fractions such as pellets or flakes used to manufacture new plastic items with a recycled content.

ELIGIBILITY

Projects must:

  • be a capital investment (not operating costs) for facilities in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • have contracts/letters of intent in place
  • commercially sustainable in medium/long-term
  • demonstrate a local need
  • demonstrate their dependence on grant funding
  • demonstrate end markets where at least 70% of recycled outputs will substitute for virgin plastic in the manufacture of new items.

Closing date 10.9.2009.
