=====================================

BACKGROUND

At the beginning of 2006, Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) carried out a survey of Voluntary Sector Health, Social Care and Wellbeing (HSCWB) Services across Wales, including Carmarthenshire.

WCVA have shared the information that they gathered, and a follow-up survey is now being conducted in Carmarthenshire by CAVS, in partnership with Carmarthenshire HSCWB Partnership, Carmarthenshire Local Health Board, West Wales Action for Mental Health, and Carmarthenshire Social Care and Housing.

Follow-up questionnaires circulated mid-August for return mid-September

Questionnaires are now being circulated, following up on the organisations that responded to WCVA’s first survey. We will also be asking for information from groups that may not have been included in WCVA’s survey. We are asking for questionnaires to be returned by Friday 15th September 2006.

The scope of WCVA's survey

The scope of the follow-up survey

Results of the two surveys

The scope of WCVA’s survey

  • The nature and scope of services provided
  • Budgets of services provided
  • Sources of funding
  • Paid and voluntary workforce numbers and hours worked
  • Activities carried out by volunteers
  • Added value of voluntary sector service provision
  • Economic impact.

The scope of this follow-up survey

  • Numbers of people helped / taking part in services / activities, and where they live (to get an overview of geographical areas not already covered by services).
  • Plans a voluntary / community group might have to extend (i.e. do more of the same) or create new projects / services.
  • What if any barriers there are to developing new services.
  • How do service users / members know about organisations.
  • Are organisations aware of the Carmarthenshire Health, Social Care and Well Being Strategy 2005-2008, and how do their current / will their planned services help to deliver the strategy.
  • What is the perceived general level of understanding of the voluntary sector by the Local Health Board and Social Services.

Results of the two surveys

The results from the two surveys will be used to:

  • Compile a directory of local voluntary sector services
  • Inform the planning and development of services prioritised in Carmarthenshire’s HSCWB Strategy 2005-2008.
