Pfizer UK Foundation Symposium 28/09/10

Posted on Tuesday, August 10, 2010

The Pfizer UK Foundation was established by Pfizer Ltd in 2005 to support grass-roots organisations tackling local health inequalities and unmet needs in the UK arising from social, economic, cultural and demographic factors. It is a grant scheme dedicated to providing short-term funding and support for modest and innovative projects seeking to improve health in deprived areas and marginalised communities.

To date, the Foundation has donated over £5.6m to 205 projects benefiting an estimated 340,000 people in some of Britain’s most deprived and disadvantaged communities.

In Wales, we have supported 34 healthcare organisations through ~£830k of investment.

The Foundation is also committed to providing additional opportunities for applicants and interested parties to showcase their work, share information, expertise and knowledge, and to promote best practice and innovation through a number of platforms including an annual event and regular newsletters.

This year, The Pfizer Foundation are holding their annual Symposium in Cardiff on Tuesday 28th September 2010 at the All Nations Centre.

The Symposium is one of the ways in which the Foundation provides its community of organisations with a platform to talk about their activities, share their learnings, and meet and network with similar organisations.

The event will focus particularly on joint working and understanding what needs to happen for collaboration to really work.

The event will show groups they have supported all of whom have demonstrated good partnership approaches which in turn promote improved health outcomes but also efficiencies. They will share best practice but also talk about the healthcare environment from their perspective so delegates better understand what they need to do in their own setting to facilitate collaboration.

The foundation is delighted to have Mike Ponton, former Director of the Welsh Confederation as their key note speaker. Mike will be talking about his experiences of good collaborative working between organisations and sectors and his take on the fundamentals of good partnerships taken from his vast experience of working in the public health arena.

Dr Bernie Fuge, Former Medical Director and Principal Medical Officer, National Assembly for Wales and current Chair Age Cymru will be opening the event.

Delegates are invited from organisations and groups concerned with community health including the NHS, local and national charities, community organisations, local authorities and social enterprises to help create a day of networking, learning and debate.

There is an opportunity to gain valuable insight from speakers and take part in an interactive collaboration session, as well as gain a better understanding of how to access Foundation funding.
