(£14,560 for 52 days over a period of 14 months)

The Caldwell Autism Foundation (CAF) is a Carmarthenshire charity supporting autistic people who have difficulty using speech to communicate and who experience distress and isolation in their lives as a result.

We are recruiting two Responsive Communication Practitioners to work part-time on a project providing Responsive Communication support to autistic children and young people across Carmarthenshire .

Responsive Communication is a way of working with autistic people which combines:

  • observing the autistic person’s experience of sensory inputs and identifying which cause distress or discomfort (inputs to which the person is hyper-sensitive) and which are neutral or positive
  • creating an autism-friendly environment by reducing or eliminating sensory inputs that are causing the person distress and increasing those sensory inputs which they experience as positive or to which they are hypo- or under-sensitive
  • tuning into and responding to the person’s body language using Intensive Interaction.

Working with the autistic person in this way promotes emotional engagement and social interaction and can lead to a reduction in distressed behaviours.

These temporary positions will be on a self-employed basis and will require an Enhanced DBS certificate.

You will need to have your own car, a full driving licence and must be available for three consecutive days each month (possibly to include weekends) for a twelve-month period as well as an additional 3.5 days at the start of the project and an additional 2.5 days at the end of the project.
