Deadline Date: 8 January 2010

As part of the suite of Reach the Heights projects, let by the Welsh Assembly Government, this project aims to aid the development of financial skills and decision making by young people in Wales through developing resources, training and by piloting opportunities for young people to be involved in financial decision making at personal, local and national levels.

The project will split into:

  • Lot 1 – Developing and Piloting a Resource to Support the Development of Financial Capability in Young People in Wales. Identify the current resources available for promoting financial literacy and capability in Wales in different settings with young people of all abilities, primarily within the 11-19 age range, and access a range of social circumstances (including the Dealing with Debt CD-ROM and its evaluation) Map the resources identified and work with young people to develop new resources. The estimated value of this lot is £120,000 over the initial 18 months, and a further £120,000 for the additional 18 months should the option to extend be taken up.
  • Lot 2 – Piloting the Involvement of Young People in Budgeting. Building upon the general financial capability resource and initial small scale examples of participative budgeting. In conjunction with young people and professionals initially develop training and resources. Select pilot areas. Refine the training delivered to young people to relate to the specific circumstances and context of the budget being considered and the budgeting exercise being carried out within the pilot that they will be involved. Provide support, develop and deliver training to professionals and young people involved within the identified participative budget pilot areas. The estimated value of this lot is £120,000 over the initial 18 months, and a further £120,000 for the additional 18 months should the option to extend be taken up.
