is a training resource pack which raises awareness of basic healthy eating, including physical activity. What makes the resource unique is that it is has been designed to link into Basic Skills core skills and knowledge. It is also particularly aimed at working with community groups.
The resource is structured into ten Units, and can be used with individuals and groups who have basic skills needs, and with those who don’t. Three OCN credits can be obtained by completing all the Units. A tutor section gives essential information about how to use the resource.
The Units are:
- Unit 1: What is a healthier lifestyle?
- Unit 2: The balance of good health; the five food groups
- Unit 3: Sources of nutrients
- Unit 4: Food portions
- Unit 5: Food labelling
- Unit 6: Healthier food choices
- Unit 7: Healthier cooking
- Unit 8: Keeping food costs down
- Unit 9: Food hygiene
- Unit 10: Understanding eating habits.
- Recipes: A selection of healthy recipes that can be used in each session.
The sessions are flexible, incorporating the opportunity to prepare meals using practical skills. Learners are encouraged to set themselves weekly goals, which aids motivation and strengthens learning.
