Criminal Records Unit
The WCVA Criminal Records Unit is part of the WCVA Contracts Unit and is funded by the Welsh Assembly. The unit has CRB registered umbrella body status and is set up to help voluntary organisations in Wales acccess the CRB Disclosure Service.
.
As such we are able to assist voluntary and community organisations in the recruitment process of both volunteers and paid staff. We are able to complete the required disclosure forms with the volunteer/worker and pass this information onto the Criminal Records Unit in North Wales. They then check and countersign the form and forward it to the CRB for processing.
In order to obatin disclosure forms from the CRU we need to know the full name of the applicant and the volunteer placement/job role that they will be carrying out. It can take anything from 2- 6 weeks for a disclosure to come through and the applicant should be informed at all stages of the recruiting process (including in the job advert) that a CRB disclosure will be required. There are currently two levels of CRB disclosure available: Enhanced and Standard.
Enhanced and Standard Disclosures are free for volunteers working with children and/or vulnerable adults. However for paid staff there is a charge of £34.00 for an enhanced disclosure and £29 for standard disclosure.
Organisations should be aware that while CAVS can assist in the recruitment process by helping with obtaining CRB checks it cannot advise on the suitability of candidates for the post or say whether they should be taken on as volunteers/paid worker or not. This decision has to lie solely with the voluntary organisation.
