Volunteers Week 2008 ~ A Thank You Day for Carmarthenshire Volunteers
To celebrate Volunteers Week 2008, Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS) Volunteer Centre held a Volunteer 'Thank You' Day at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Monday 2nd June.
An event is arranged every year to say a BIG thank you to Carmarthenshire's volunteers who give freely of their time, energy and enthusiasm to help others and their communities. Without volunteers, many organisations would find it impossible to exist and carry out their daily duties.
The sun was shining throughout the day and around 300 volunteers attended the event. Free entry was generously provided by the Gardens, along with a free hot drink and Welsh cake.
Many events were organised throughout the day, including a wonderful perfomance by Tumble Primary School’s choir to open the event, massage sessions from Nadine Maddocks, reflexology sessions by Llesol Therapy Centre, and a Salsa Dancing Workshop by ‘Dance @ Caio On-line’. There were also information stands from local groups promoting their work.
"It was an opportunity for volunteer co-ordinators to publicly thank their volunteers and to highlight all the good work they do for local groups and communities. Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a lovely day out,” said Fflur Hughes, Volunteering Officer for CAVS Volunteer Centre.
Thanks go to Kevin Lamb, Chief Executive and all the staff and the volunteers at the Gardens for their help and support in organising this event and making the day such an enjoyable one; and to Tumble Primary School and all the other contributors who made the day such a success.
If you are interested in doing voluntary work, then please contact one of the Volunteering Officers at CAVS Carmarthen office on 01267 236367, email volunteering@cavs.org.uk or visit the website – www.volunteering-wales.net.
