OCN (Open College Network) Accredited training courses

An Introduction to Volunteer Management

This 5-day training course is delivered every two years, or annually on demand. The course offers optional Open College Network accreditation and is valued at 6 Credits at Level Two or Three. The training is designed for anyone whose role involves managing or Co-ordinating volunteers.

Practical Volunteering Skills

The course covers generic skills of use to volunteers in a number of different roles.

The style of the training is informal, friendly and fun. The volunteers will have opportunities to talk about their own experiences and will be encouraged to apply the learning to their volunteer role.

Preparing to Volunteer

A newly developed course designed for people who would like to get involved – but don’t feel quite confident enough to take that first step. The course covers skills analysis, personal development, communication and assertiveness skills as well as providing information on volunteering in the County. The course takes place over four days and can be delivered in-house for groups of six or more.

Mentoring Skills

The aim of the course is to train up existing volunteers to take on the additional role of Mentor to new volunteers and those who need a little extra support. The skills are also useful in other walks of life and the training will provide a useful route for volunteers who wish to build on and develop their skills.

Informal and Short courses

These training courses are free and for groups of 6 or more people we can come to you to do an in-house session on request.

Staying Safe – Personal Safety for Volunteers – This can be delivered as a full day session or as a two-hour taster / refresher session.

Confidentiality – Policies and Practice - This can be extended to cover Child Protection policies too. This can be run as a one day course, or as a two hour taster / refresher session. It is appropriate for both volunteers and paid workers.
