WALES WOMEN’S NATIONAL COALITION SOUTH WALES CONFERENCE 2010
Friday 15th January 2010 – Brangwyn Hall, Swansea (10.00am- 3.15pm)
European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion
The theme of our winter conferences is the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. Our excellent speakers are:
- Baroness Anita Gale
- Maria Mesa: Oxfam UK Poverty Programme
- Victoria Winckler: Bevan Foundation
- David Adamson: University of Glamorgan
Our conferences will highlight some of the imperative issues surrounding the gendered aspect of poverty, whilst focusing on what we can do to alleviate the hardships experienced by the most vulnerable groups in society. Our speakers and discussion will cover the four specific objectives:
1. Recognition of the right of people in poverty and social exclusion to live in dignity and to play a full part in society;
2. An increase in the public ownership of social inclusion policies, emphasising everyone’s responsibility in tackling poverty and social exclusion;
3. A more cohesive society, where no one doubts that society as a whole benefits from the eradication of poverty;
4. Commitment of all actors, because real progress requires a long term effort that involves all levels of governance.
Our agenda covers all aspects of women and poverty, an issue we at WWNC feel very passionate about. We are excited about the contribution we can make as an organisation committed to our members, and to the women of Wales.
This event will be of interest to representatives of public, private and voluntary sector organisations, groups or individuals who have an interest in poverty, women’s issues, gender equality or equality & diversity generally.
Attendance at this event is £5 for all delegates. In addition organisations can exhibit at the conference, free to members and available at a small cost of £20 to non-members.
If you would like to book a place at this conference, please contact Suzy Barrett at suzy-barrett@wwnc.org.uk, or phone 029 2047 8918.
