In 2009 the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) designated the Western Valleys as a Strategic Regeneration Area (WVSRA) as a means of achieving sustainable regeneration across the five local authority areas of Powys, Carmarthen, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend.

As the WVSRA moves into its second year each local authority has been tasked with producing local regeneration plans based upon individual valleys to evidence the needs of local areas and to ensure that any projects supported are addressing needs.

A Valleys Area Forum has been established to secure increased dissemination of SRA action and active involvement in developing enhanced response to agreed local needs.

A sum of money has been allocated for the Amman and Gwendraeth Strategic Regeneration Areas for 2010/11.

SRA Proformas will be presented at the Valleys Area Forum on 26th July 2010.

The Valleys Area Forum will recommend which projects should be put forward for consideration at forthcoming WAG Steering Group Meetings. This group will make the decision on which projects are supported.

There will also be future opportunities to submit SRA Proformas.
