Arts and Mental Health – Celebrating our Unique Creativity and Individuality, St Peters Civic Hall, Carmarthen.

The North Carmarthenshire and Open Link Mental Health Forums have organised a Celebration Day on Friday 10th October to mark World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is a significant annual international event that aims to celebrate and promote mental health. WMHD has been well established in Wales since it began in 1992. The Day is internationally coordinated by the World Federation for Mental Health and co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation, a specialised agency of the United Nations. The day will bring together a range of voluntary, statutory and community organisations which work across Carmarthenshire to promote the importance of the arts and mental health.

People with direct experience of mental health problems, carers and members of the public will also be attending. Guest Speakers include Mr Chris Ryan, from Artscare Gofal Celf, talking about the work of the charity and the latest research into the links between arts and health.

Individuals will also be speaking about their personal experience of mental health problems, and creativity and the importance of art to them. Digital stories will be shown which have been created and produced by individuals with direct experience of mental health problems.
